2 Guns

2 Guns
by Baltasar Kormákur (2013)

Two undercover agents are infiltrated into a Mexican drug cartel. However, despite both being agents, Trench and Stigman do not know each other and have no idea of each other’s identities. As they approach their target, their mutual distrust becomes evident. Their mission becomes complicated and fails, forcing them to join forces to survive and face the consequences of their infiltration.

“Do you know the saying: never rob a bank in front of a restaurant that makes the best donuts in the area?”
(Robert Bobby Trench)

Maybe not everyone knows that…

…Cani Sciolti is based on a comic miniseries called 2 Guns (the original title of the film) by Steven Grant.
…The film was shot in several cities, including Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and New Orleans.

…The two main protagonists were originally supposed to be played by Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson.

…For the role of the main protagonist, Marisa Tomei was initially considered.

…The film was released under the codename “Duel action” and won an Award at the Locarno festival.

Considerations.

Mark Wahlberg as Marcus plays the brash jokester with a weakness for waitresses. Alongside him, Denzel Washington as Bobby is certainly more composed and contemplative.
The two are the true stars of the film, perfectly paired and comfortable in this action movie set in the world of crime.

An intricate screenplay where, instead of dialogues and clear exposition, the choice is made to stun and bombard the audience with fireworks to hit the senses rather than seduce.

Pure entertainment? Perhaps yes.
But it works damn well and serves to make for a fun evening without too many pretensions.
