Rip Fletch – Depeche Mode
Andrew John Fletcher, commonly known as Fletch (Nottingham, July 8, 1961 – May 26, 2022), was an English keyboardist and manager.
He is known for being a member of the English music group Depeche Mode.
In 2020, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Depeche Mode.
Son of Joe and John Fletcher (deceased), he has three younger sisters.
He was born in Nottingham but moved with his family to Basildon when he was two years old.
He founded Depeche Mode along with keyboardist/percussionist Vince Clarke (initially the leader and mastermind of the group), playing bass, but soon switched to keyboards and synthesizers, although he continued to play bass in the studio.
Soon, the band would be joined by keyboardist/guitarist Martin Gore (future leader and songwriter of the group) and charismatic singer Dave Gahan.
Fletcher married his longtime girlfriend Gráinne Mullan on January 16, 1991, and the couple had two children, Meghan and Joe.
During the 1990s, Fletcher owned a restaurant called Gascogne on Blenheim Terrace in the St John’s Wood neighborhood of London.
During concerts, he was memorable for his clap (or clapping in time) with the rhythm of each piece performed and for his friendly encouragement of the audience.
Over time, Fletcher also carved out a decent “solo” career as a DJ, performing his DJ sets at various nightclubs and international dance festivals, including Italy (for example, the event at the “Vivilago” festival in Riva del Garda (Trento) on August 20, 2011, which received a great public response).
His repertoire included various Depeche Mode songs, including remixes from the last 20 years, as well as dance, techno, and drum ‘n bass tracks.
