Hold on tight, the sequel to Joker is coming!
The film Joker by Todd Phillips, starring Joaquin Phoenix, was a true media and especially commercial success. In 2019, just before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, it broke box office records, even surpassing the recent The Batman with Robert Pattinson.
Now, a sequel is officially in the works. This was revealed by Todd Phillips himself, who shared a copy of the screenplay for Joker: Folies à Deux, written by him, on Instagram. Once again, Scott Silver, who also worked on the script for the first film, will be by his side.
The title Joker: Folies à Deux refers to a well-known psychiatric syndrome, also called “Shared Psychotic Disorder” in Italian. This rare syndrome causes a delusional psychosis to be transferred from one individual to another.
As we mentioned earlier, the 2019 film was a huge success, with a total box office gross of over $1 billion, against a production budget of only $55 million! And although the first film…
Details about this production are still unknown, but the title suggests that in the film, the Joker will start gaining followers by transferring his psychosis. And who knows, we might even see Harley Quinn make her first appearance. Of course, we can assume that Joaquin Phoenix will return to reprise his role as the Joker, who has been hailed by fans as one of the best portrayals alongside Heath Ledger and Jack Nicholson.
All we can do now is wait for more details on the plot and release of this film, and in the meantime, revisit the first movie.
The sequel to Todd Phillips’ Joker is coming, so get ready!
