Aguscello Children’s Psychiatric Hospital

Aguscello Children’s Psychiatric Hospital We are in Aguscello, a small hamlet with just over 500 inhabitants in the province of Ferrara (Italy)

In this small village, there is an old building that attracts many paranormal enthusiasts and curious visitors, being considered one of the most haunted places in Italy.

The history of the building is shrouded in mystery, and the information available online is often contradictory.

The building in question is said to be owned by the Italian Red Cross.

In 1940, it was handed over to nuns to be used as a children’s asylum.

The residents were children under thirteen years old.

There are no concrete testimonies about the existence of this institution; it is said that there are no documents about it, as if someone wanted to conceal evidence of its existence.

What is known is that inside, bed frames, wheelchairs, and toys were found. Additionally, various equipment and electroshock devices were found in the surrounding areas.

The grim reality of asylums during those years is well-known, and certain “experiments” were conducted without regard even for the youngest.

THE BUILDING:

The building is surrounded by a vast area of abandoned land.
It consists of three distinct buildings: one larger, where the children were likely kept, and two smaller ones, one of which is said to contain a small chapel.

The interior is dilapidated and decaying, with part of the roof missing, walls covered in graffiti, and stairs impassable in several places.

However, exploring it is not impossible; one just needs to be a bit reckless and careful of broken window panes, cobwebs, and syringes that testify to the presence of those who sought refuge inside.

The building has been a shelter for drug addicts, homeless people, vagrants, and, apparently, even satanists.

Indeed, some rooms have been found with items related to black masses, but according to experts, only one room has remains genuinely connected to a ritual; the others are said to be staged or performed by amateurs for their “little rites.”

THE ASYLUM:

It is said that the asylum was already owned by the Italian Red Cross since the 1940s and was managed by the nuns, who, despite being “women of faith,” did not have a heart…
The hospital housed about thirty children with “psychic” problems.

If it truly existed (I personally do not doubt it, given the discovery of certain objects), it would explain why no documents were found.

The history of psychiatry teaches us that mental illnesses were seen as real “curses,” and their treatment was based on inhumane and not exactly “orthodox” experiments.

It is said that the children were subjected to physical and psychological torture.

There was no real distinction between different pathologies and consequently no distinction in the therapies.

The most common treatments were electroshock, lobotomy, and cold water immersion.

Some claim that there is a mass grave inside the building, although there is no trace of it.

The closure of the supposed asylum is also a mystery.

Some say that the nuns abandoned the children during World War II, and they died of starvation.

However, there are other theories.

There are talks of an epidemic within the institution, a possible fire (none of the visitors have seen signs of this), and some even speak of a maniac who entered the building and killed everyone present.

THE ASYLUM AND ITS GHOSTS:

The most well-known legend associated with the Aguscello hospital tells of a child with an angelic face but a tormented soul who was locked up here by his parents.
Segregated in a room on the third floor and subjected to abuse by the staff, he decided to throw himself down.

Perhaps unaware of the real danger of his act, but only desiring to reach that garden to run free as a child should.

His body was never found.

Many people claim to have seen his ghost playing freely among the ruins and that it is he who makes the famous carousel in the building spin, to which a phrase written on a wall refers:

“WHOEVER MAKES THE CAROUSEL TURN WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO STOP IT BECAUSE THE SOULS OF THE CHILDREN WILL PLAY ETERNALLY.”

On the third floor, there is indeed a black silhouette resembling a child; legend has it that a child was stoned at that very spot.
However, most manifestations are said to occur on the top floor, where cries and screams of children are heard.

Furthermore, according to some researchers, the Aguscello hospital is also haunted by malignant entities of adults, and children’s footprints appear on the walls.
