Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Welcome back to our weekly column dedicated to the world of games! Today we’re talking about a Swedish product from 2010! AMNESIA: THE DARK DESCENT

Plot

Daniel wakes up within the cold, dark walls of Brennenburg Castle, remembering only his name, that he lived in London, and the most unsettling thing… that he is being hunted by something.

Shortly after waking up, Daniel finds a strange note written by himself, in which he explains why he deliberately lost his memory.

The note also states that he must kill the old Baron Alexander and escape the living nightmare known as “The Shadow”…

This is the disorienting start of Amnesia: The Dark Descent, a first-person survival horror adventure set inside Brennenburg Castle and its underground areas.

As the confused and terrified Daniel, the player will uncover what happened to the mansion and to himself by collecting notes and diary pages scattered throughout the game world, with the story also unfolding through several flashbacks.

Chased and hunted by The Shadow and the mutilated, horrifying creatures it creates, you must solve the mystery of your past, leading to 3 (or rather 4) different endings.

General Features of the Game Amnesia is an adventure that requires players to fully explore the environments and use their intellect to solve the many puzzles within; cunning and cleverness are key to surviving the monsters roaming the castle. Daniel’s only weapons are silence and his ability to hide.

However, staying too long in the dark might drive the protagonist to madness… so players can’t hide forever.

Madness can also occur by witnessing macabre events or staring at the monsters…

What do you think? How many of you got lost in the underground of Brennenburg Castle? Did you manage to uncover Daniel’s gruesome secret?
