TRIVIA ABOUT MIDSOMMAR

  • The film was made with a budget of 9 million, earning nearly 48 million.
  • The screenplay was written shortly after Ari Aster’s breakup with his girlfriend. In many ways, the film focuses on the themes of breakup, pain, and rebirth.
  • A keen eye might notice in the image beside that there is a face visible among the trees. It belongs to Dani’s sister, who takes her own life at the beginning of the film. You can also see the tube she used to kill herself.
  • When Dani looks in the mirror after drinking the hallucinogenic tea, you can see her dead sister in the background.

 

TRIVIA ABOUT HEREDITARY

  • The cinematographer Pawel Pogorzelski was Ari Aster’s classmate at the American Film Institute Conservatory.
  • The soundtrack is by saxophonist and experimental composer Colin Stetson (who has worked with musicians like Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, and Tom Waits).
  • Aster began to envision *Hereditary* after his family went through a series of difficulties that lasted continuously for three years. He recounted: “The situation became really unbearable to the point that we started to think we were victims of a curse. When you make a film about the injustices of life, the horror genre is a very peculiar playground. It’s a sort of perverse space where the injustices of life are celebrated, if not glorified.”
