Dario Argento’s Cameos
It’s no secret that Dario Argento, particularly with his early films, was a brilliant mind. Perhaps not everyone knows that he indirectly appeared in some scenes of his films: for example, the hands of the killers with leather gloves in Deep Red, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, and The Cat o’ Nine Tails are indeed his.
This has always been known, but only recently has the director confirmed this “urban legend” that was indeed true.
Initially, these scenes were to be filmed with the hands of an extra, but since Argento was not satisfied, he did them himself and undoubtedly very well…
Personally, the peak is reached with Suspiria: in the scene where Sarah (Stefania Casini) is fleeing, we can see him for a brief moment from behind with a black—of course—cape.
At the beginning of the film, when Susy (Jessica Harper) is in the taxi, the director’s reflection can be seen shouting (!).
Of course, he is also the voice we hear in his works.
