Evil Genius

Evil Genius is a true crime documentary series in four episodes, released on Netflix in 2018, that delves into one of the most complex and bizarre criminal cases in recent history. At the heart of the series is the so-called “pizza bomber” case, a shocking crime that took place in Erie, Pennsylvania, in 2003. This case captured national attention and became one of the most enigmatic investigations of the last few decades.

The crime involved Brian Wells, a pizza delivery driver who was abducted and forced to participate in a bank robbery with a bomb strapped around his neck. The bomb, set to explode as part of the plan, would have detonated if Wells did not follow the instructions he was given. Unfortunately, despite his attempts to comply, the bomb exploded, tragically killing him in front of police officers and cameras. This shocking event triggered a massive manhunt for those responsible, leading to an investigation that uncovered a web of lies, manipulation, and unexpected involvement.

Evil Genius doesn’t just recount the crime and the investigation, but goes further by offering a detailed analysis of the minds behind the plot. Through interviews with investigators, law enforcement officials, and people connected to the suspects, the series reveals the psychological underpinnings of the case. The interviews uncover the plans and motivations of those involved, weaving together stories of greed, manipulation, and mental instability.

Evil Genius also delves into the personal lives of the key figures, including the victim and the main suspects, allowing viewers to see the human side of the case. The series not only grabs attention with its plot full of twists, but also provokes reflection on how greed, deceit, and human dynamics can lead to such extreme crimes.
