Girl Interrupted

Girl Interrupted

“Have you ever confused a dream with reality? Have you ever stolen something while working the register, ever felt sad? Have you ever thought your train was moving, but you were standing still? Maybe I was just crazy, or maybe it was the Sixties. Or maybe I was just a girl interrupted.”

Girls Interrupted or simply souls searching for their place in the world

What always struck me was the psychiatrist’s explanation of the concept of ambivalence to Susan…
Being torn between two different ways of life, not knowing which path to take.
Do I want a wild and libertine life? Do I want to conform? Am I crazy? Am I sane?
Who among us has never felt “lost” in life? Unsure of what career to pursue, what thoughts to embrace, what to feel.
That’s what happens to the protagonist, played by WINONA RYDER, who, after a suicide attempt, agrees to be admitted to a psychiatric hospital where she meets a group of girls who will become her friends, her support group, her mirror.
She will encounter real madness, the true loneliness of minds already lost. And in a way, this will save her from her precarious condition.

A stellar cast: Angelina Jolie is absolutely perfect, and WHOOPY GOLDBERG, perhaps not used to her full potential.
An honorable mention to the sweet and talented BRITTANY MURPHY, who delivers a truly effective and melancholic performance. Taken from us too soon, I believe she would have gone on to do great things.
