John Steiner is Dead (Chester, January 7, 1941 – Los Angeles, July 31, 2022) was a British actor.
Initially a stage and television actor, he moved to Italy in the 1960s, where he was cast in a role in the film Tepepa. There, he had a long and successful career as a character actor in various genre films, including spaghetti westerns and crime films, often portraying unsettling characters. In 1991, Steiner retired from the film industry and moved to Los Angeles in the United States, where he became a real estate agent. He died on July 31, 2022, at the age of 81 following a car accident.
At the age of 81, he passed away in Los Angeles, where he had moved after completely changing his career. He was part of the cast of Dario Argento’s Tenebre.
John Steiner, an English actor who built his career in Italy between the 1960s and 1990s, starring in numerous genre films, died at the age of 81 due to a car accident. His Italian debut came in 1967 with Tepepa, a spaghetti western by Giulio Petroni featuring Tomas Milian and Orson Welles, following his collaboration with Peter Brook in Marat/Sade and Stanley Donen’s Bedazzled.
With his elegant manners and figure, Steiner was a regular in many crime films, such as La polizia è al servizio del cittadino?, Roma violenta, and Milano violenta. He also worked with some of the most important names in the genre cinema of the 1970s, including Lucio Fulci (White Fang, Dracula in the Provinces) and Ruggero Deodato (Wave of Lust).
He also collaborated with Tinto Brass, starring in Salon Kitty, Caligula, Action, and Paprika.
John Steiner was also in Dario Argento’s Tenebre, where he played the journalist Cristiano Berti. He also appeared in a small role in Carlo Verdone’s comedy I due Carabinieri, playing a psychiatric patient trying to get revenge on his doctor.
In 1991, Steiner retired from the film industry and moved to Los Angeles, California, where he pursued a career as a real estate agent. He had recently contributed interviews to enrich the extras of some DVDs.
