Can a quiet evening at a restaurant to celebrate a wedding anniversary turn into eternal damnation?

For Daniel Garner, the protagonist of Painkiller, it certainly did!!

Painkiller is a shooter in the truest sense of the word. If you’re looking for a title where physical elimination of enemies is mixed with a pinch of adventure or elements borrowed from other gaming genres, look elsewhere.

Here, it’s all about killing, and it’s done with great style.

Painkiller belongs to that small circle of FPS games that, following in the footsteps of titles like Serious Sam, but even before that to historic games like Doom and Rise of The Triad, prioritizes pure action and reckless slaughter over other elements that, in recent times—let’s say since Half-Life—have been blended into straightforward shooting.

Dead, along with his wife, due to a car accident, he finds himself in Purgatory conversing with Samuel, an angel sent by God, who asks him to face Lucifer and defeat him to prevent the invasion of Heaven by hellish forces.

Only then can Daniel be reunited with his wife Catherine in Eden.

At that point, the player, with some doubts about his mission, must face the first part of this first-person adventure that takes place in Purgatory before reaching hell.

During the journey, he will encounter Alastor, Eve, and Lucifer himself in a whirlwind of fierce battles with weapons that have dual firing modes, infernal magical tarot cards, and demonic powers.

How many of you accompanied Daniel on his hunt for Lucifer?

What did you think of the ending?
