The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie’s Revenge

Welcome back to our weekly gaming column! With Christmas just around the corner, I find it quite fitting to talk about a video game that is very dear to me, not exactly horror-themed, but with a subject very close to all our hearts!

“Welcome to Halloween Town”

The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie’s Revenge is an action-adventure “hack and slash” video game released in Europe at the end of September 2005 for PlayStation 2 and Xbox!

This game is precisely the sequel to Tim Burton’s film!

Plot

After yet another disappointing Halloween night, Jack Skellington decides to leave Halloween Town once again in search of new ideas to make the holiday even more wicked, terrible, and frightening! Before departing, he speaks with Dr. Finklestein about a “new Halloween.” The Doctor gives him a green weapon called the Soul Robber, which resembles a whip but can change shape.
What could possibly go wrong?
Lock, Shock, and Barrel, taking advantage of Jack’s absence, resurrect Oogie Boogie (the Boogeyman), who immediately takes over the town, locks the sweet Sally in a crypt, and captures five of the seven leaders of Holiday World, excluding Santa Claus and our Jack.

Oogie wants to become the King of the Seven Holidays once he takes control of Christmas Town!

Jack, returning home on December 24th, must save the citizens of Halloween Town from the Boogeyman’s rule and uncover and thwart his evil plans for the conquest of all realms!

By the end of the adventure, Jack realizes that his home and friends are far more important and precious than any new terrifying discovery. The game concludes with an image we know well: Jack and Sally kissing at the top of Spiral Hill!

Gameplay

The game is very simple and suitable for a young audience!
Each of Jack’s costumes has different abilities that players discover throughout the various adventures.

What do you think?
Have you ever played it?
Would you let your children play it?
