Who isn’t afraid of The WITCHES?
With their spells and their potions…
A witch is generally understood to be a person dedicated to practicing magical arts and sometimes endowed with supernatural powers.
However, “witch” is also the name that members of pagan culture give themselves. This term is not always used in a negative sense; sometimes it is employed to define a scholar of herbology, crystal divination, and witchcraft.
According to beliefs spread across various cultures, witches were thought to practice magic, especially folk magic, and possess occult powers derived from their connection with the devil or other supernatural entities.
These women (as it was mostly women) allegedly used such powers almost exclusively to harm people and things and sometimes to oppose the entire human society.
For several centuries, many people were persecuted by the Church when they were believed to exhibit the characteristics attributed to witches.
Quotes
Now is the very witching time of night,
When churchyards yawn, and hell itself breathes out
Contagion to this world.
(William Shakespeare)
Witches ceased to exist when we stopped burning them.
(Voltaire)
Lovely witch, do you love the damned?
Tell me, do you know the irremissible?
Do you know Remorse with poisoned darts
Whose target is our heart?
Lovely witch, do you love the damned?
(Charles Baudelaire)
