Metro: Exodus is a first-person shooter with a strong narrative component and survival-horror elements.
Metro: Exodus was released in 2019 for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Later, versions for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S were also released. The title was developed by the Ukrainian studio 4A Games and published by Deep Silver. The story of Metro: Exodus and the two previous installments of the series is based on the novels of Russian writer Dmitrij Gluchovskij.
PLOT
Metro: Exodus is set in 2035 and is the sequel to Metro: Last Light. Twenty-three years ago, a nuclear war devastated the planet. Part of the Moscow population is forced to live underground, within the former subway, due to the radiation affecting the environment above ground. Artyom, the protagonist of the game, believes that it is possible to find safe places outside the metro. He manages to convince his wife Anna, the daughter of Commander Miller, of this. Miller leads a group of elite soldiers called the “Spartans.” After a few failed attempts, Artyom will also convince Miller, and together they will embark on a long journey of hope aboard a train.
CONSIDERATIONS
Metro: Exodus is an atypical shooter, as it is not frantic and often encourages players to use stealth techniques to take out one enemy at a time without risking being detected. The gameplay mechanics, in this sense, work well and allow us to choose the most suitable approach for various missions. The narrative is a decidedly central aspect of the gaming experience, enriched by high-quality real-time cutscenes and deep character development. The game world is perhaps the best part of the Ukrainian development team’s work . In Metro: Exodus, the desolate atmosphere that pervades its post-apocalyptic environments is well-crafted and drives players toward an immersion that few other games can offer. Moreover, Artyom’s adventure often leads us into claustrophobic situations where, alas, we will have to deal with unfriendly creatures…
IN CONCLUSION
Metro: Exodus is an experience that is absolutely recommended, offering anyone who wishes to approach it around twenty intense hours. An adventure that will remain in your heart, especially if you have loved games like Half-Life or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Intense, profound, and captivating.
