The Last of Us

The Last of Us

The Last of Us is an action-adventure title that surprised everyone from the moment it was announced, later becoming one of the most awarded games in video game history.

News

Finally, it’s no longer “just a rumor.”
These days, there’s a lot of buzz about the news released during the Summer Game Fest by Neil Druckmann, president of Naughty Dog, about the upcoming release of the game’s remake, titled The Last of Us Part I.

This remake will be available in September for PlayStation 5, and later for Microsoft Windows. The news was accompanied by the first official trailer for the game.

Reactions to the game’s announcement have been mixed: many have called it “unnecessary,” given the existence of The Last of Us Remastered; while others have been positively impressed by the graphics and audio in the trailer.

While waiting for this remake, let’s revisit the story and gameplay features of the original The Last of Us.

Story

The year is 2013. The outbreak caused by the mutation of the **Cordyceps** fungus spreads across the United States, turning infected humans into highly aggressive, zombie-like creatures. **Joel** tries to escape the chaos erupting in Austin, Texas, but during the escape, his daughter **Sarah** is shot by a soldier and dies in Joel’s desperate arms.
This painful memory will haunt him forever.

Twenty years later, in 2033, the survivors of the infection—which has nearly wiped out humanity—live in tightly controlled quarantine zones, independent settlements, or nomadic groups.

Joel survives by smuggling with Tess in Boston. During a mission, he meets the young Ellie, who appears to be immune to the deadly infection…

General Thoughts on the Game

**The Last of Us** might be considered a game “not for everyone,” given the rawness of certain scenes involving the protagonists, their allies, and those who oppose them. However, this very depth in storytelling and realism in the setting makes it a game “that absolutely must be played” at least once in a lifetime.
What do you think?

How many of you were “moved” by the story of Joel and Ellie?

What would you have done in Joel’s shoes at the end of the adventure?

What are your thoughts on the remake’s release? Will you play it? Will you skip it? Do you find it unnecessary, or are you eagerly awaiting it?
