Tonight, we’re discussing a television series with a unique blend of dark comedy and horror elements. We’re talking about Santa Clarita Diet, created by Victor Fresco. A fresh and surprisingly new take on the zombie genre.

The plot revolves around the Hammond family, consisting of Sheila (portrayed by Drew Barrymore), Joel (played by Timothy Olyphant), and their teenage daughter Abby (played by Liv Hewson). The family’s serene suburban life is disrupted when Sheila transforms into an undead with an insatiable craving for human flesh. The family finds themselves not only dealing with the normal issues of daily life but also with the fact that the mother has become a zombie.

While the plot delves into dark and macabre themes such as cannibalism and death, the tones are light and enjoyable, making the story a true dark comedy. As a result, the viewer finds themselves laughing even in the most unsettling situations, wondering what’s going on.

But the real strength of the series undoubtedly lies in the cast. Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant bring an irresistible chemistry to the screen in the roles of the Hammond spouses. Their convincing performances add a touch of humanity to the story, making it easier for the audience to identify and empathize with the characters, despite their extraordinary situations.

Furthermore, the series boasts smart and creative writing that provides a constant flow of brilliant jokes and hilarious situations. The combination of humor and tension creates a captivating viewing experience that keeps viewers glued to every episode.

“Santa Clarita Diet” has received praise for its originality and innovative approach to the zombie genre, but unfortunately, it was canceled by Netflix after only 3 seasons. Nevertheless, the audience has consistently demanded a continuation, demonstrating that they not only appreciated the story but also its consistency from one season to the next.
