“The Three-Body Problem” (2024 – in production)

Netflix continues to amaze its subscribers with a wide range of content, and its latest addition, “The Three-Body Problem,” promises to be an extraordinary experience for science fiction lovers.

Based on the acclaimed trilogy of novels by Cixin Liu, the series has been created by a trio of talent: David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo, who are renowned for their work on the now-cult series, Game of Thrones.

The story revolves around the first book, and in part the other two, of Cixin Liu’s eponymous trilogy.

Set against the backdrop of a tumultuous China during the Cultural Revolution, young scientist Ye Wenjie discovers a way to contact life forms alien to Earth. Years later, we will discover the consequences of this historic encounter.

The tale transforms into a captivating science fiction saga as events unfold across time and space, involving a wide range of characters and settings, with themes ranging from science to human identity.

Within the series, we find an exceptional cast with some familiar faces such as Jonathan Pryce portraying the enigmatic Mike Evans, leading a circle of fanatics, Liam Cunningham, and John Bradley (respectively Ser Davos and Sam in “Game of Thrones”), also in very specific and well-fitted roles. The undisputed protagonist of the series is New Zealand actress Jess Hong, who plays the role of Jin Cheng, a scientist with an important task of salvation.

“…is it possible that the relationship between man and evil is similar to the relationship between the ocean and an iceberg floating on the surface? Both the ocean and the iceberg are made of the same material. If the iceberg appears separate from the sea, it is only because it has a different shape. In truth, it is nothing more than a tiny part of the vast ocean…”

With the creators’ already established reputation and the enormous success of the novels on which it is based, the series has captured the attention of fans worldwide. Moreover, the fact that it is available on Netflix provides easy access to a global audience, ensuring that the series can reach and engage a vast number of viewers.
